Research Description:

I am interested in how sleeping brain activity changes across the lifespan. Sleep provides a fascinating opportunity to investigate brain function while the brain is “offline”, free of interference from factors like movement, attention and the ability to follow instructions. Therefore sleep is an excellent tool for studying the brain changes that underly cognitive decline in healthy and pathological aging. I am using high density EEG during sleep and MRI to study changes in brain function and structure in healthy aging and in neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s Disease. I hope to understand the underlying mechanisms of brain change and to discover biomarkers to aid diagnosis and treatment.
