Thalamic relay neurons express two firing modes: 'tonic' and 'burst'. These two modes differ in the distinct cellular mechanisms used to pass information to the cortex. My research focuses on the specific properties of the thalamocortical loop and how these distinct thalamic firing modes alter/mediate this activity.
