Research Project

My major project is to investigate relationships of changes in ion homeostasis and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in response to ischemic neuronal damage. Disruption of Na+ and Ca2+ homeostasis plays a role in neuronal damage. I have found that inhibition of Na-dependent chloride cotransport is neuroprotective following in vitro ischemia. Currently, I study whether blocking Ca2+ dysregulation would reduce ER stress. I use immunoblot, immunocytochemical and SiRNA techniques to detect ER stress against several ER stress protein antibodies.
