Research Project:

My current work in the Ganetzky lab combines questions and approaches of evolutionary development with neurobiology to ask whether natural selection acts to sculpt morphological details of the nervous system that differ among species using the larval neuromuscular junction of Drosophilids as a model. I am working to identify the underlying genetic variation responsible for differing synaptic phenotypes in closely related species. In addition, I am working to correlate the variation in synaptic development to differences in the natural history and behavior of the species.
