Integrated Biological Sciences Summer Research Program in Neuroscience
|
For ten weeks, participants work full-time with UW-Madison
faculty and researchers in state-of-the-art research facilities.
Areas available for study in neurobiology are very diverse. In
addition to their individual research experience, students
participate in workshops on research topics of interest, ethics,
career choices, and preparation for the GRE. At the end of the
program, students orally present their research at a
symposium, and publish written reports of their work in a
program journal, which will also be available on the program
web site. Along with their educational experience, students
also have the opportunity to explore UW-Madison and the city
of Madison.
This program is a partnership between the Neuroscience Training Program and the Center for Biology Education. |

Areas of neurobiology research
Faculty in the Neuroscience Training Program are conducting
research spanning the entire breadth of modern neurobiology,
from molecular through systems and cognitive, and involving
applications that range from single-celled organisms to
humans. Scientific research on the structure and function of
the nervous system is conducted at multiple levels of
investigation and employs many different approaches and
methodologies. A distinct advantage of a strong research
institution such as UW-Madison is the existence of a critical
mass of faculty researchers who collaborate and share common
approaches or research questions.
Financial support
The program provides a stipend of $4,200, full support for travel,
housing, health insurance (if needed), and a partial food allowance.
Students have access to all campus libraries and facilities. There
are no fees or tuition costs.
Eligibility
Applicants MUST:
- Be a US citizen or permanent resident
- Currently between their sophomore and senior years of college
- Have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Demonstrate strong interest in a biological research career
Students who are African American, Hispanic, Native American,
Southeast Asian, Native Alaskan or Native Pacific Islander, OR who
are from low-income homes, OR who attend small liberal arts
institutions without broad research facilities are strongly encouraged
to apply.
