MISSION OF GRADUATE WOMEN IN SCIENCE

"To advance the participation and recognition of women in science and to foster research through grants, awards, and fellowships. Graduate Women in Science is an interdisciplinary society of scientists who encourage and support women to enter and achieve success in science through full participation in their scientific research and its applications; in the development and advancement of women; in the integration of their careers, personal goals, and society's needs; and by professional networking and mutual inspiration." http://www.gwis.org/

PURPOSE OF THE NATIONAL MEETING

The National Meeting is a time for members from chapters across the country to come together in one location and share ideas, plans, and science. Friday is the business meeting where the logistics of the national organization are. Saturday is filled with presentations by scientists across the county. HOUSING

We have reserved a limited number of rooms at the three hotels closest to the Pyle Center:

The Lowell Inn and Conference Center, 610 Langdon St. ($77/single, $87/double/night, 866-301-1753, mention GWIS and ask for state rate). Rooms will be released on MAY 10.
The Campus Inn, 601 Langdon St. ($115/single; $130/double/night, 800-589-6285; ask for GWIS, Group reservation #50349). Rooms will be released on MAY 10.
The Edgewater Hotel, 666 Wisconsin Ave. ($89/single; $116/double/night, 800-922-5512; ask for GWIS Group reservation #K60000.) Rooms will be released MAY 8.

TRAVEL INFORMATION

The closest airport is the Dane County Regional Airport (MSN, http://www.co.dane.wi.us/airport). GWIS president, Regina Vidaver, has offered to pick people up at the Dane County airport. Otherwise taxies, shuttles, and the Madison Metro Bus are relatively inexpensive. More information on taxi prices, a link to the Madison Metro Bus website, and transportation options can be found at this link: http://www.co.dane.wi.us/airport/ground_transport.aspOther nearby airports include Milwaukee, WI and Chicago, IL. There is bus service to Madison from both Milwaukee ( http://www.badgerbus.com ) and Chicago ( http://www.coachusa.com/vangalder ).

PARKING

The State Street Campus ramp is located near the Pyle Center. This ramp costs $.85/hr during the day and $2 maximum in the evening. City of Madison parking information is available online at http://www.ci.madison.wi.us/parking/parking.html/

POSTER PRESENTATIONS

Present your scientific research or information about your local GWIS chapter. If you wish to present a poster, please indicate your intention on the on-line registration form. Poster board size is 48"H X 36"W. Pushpins WILL be provided. Please submit abstracts to Shampa Kandoi kandoi@cae.wisc.edu. Deadlne for submission of abstracts is May 13, 2006.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Most buildings on UW-Madison's campus have elevators and are accessible. If you have other special needs, including reserved handicapped parking or dietary needs, please email Jenny Dahlberg at ntp@mhub.neuroscience.wisc.edu as soon as possible.
